Dan Seals

Candidate, Illinois' 10th Congressional District

A Commitment to Us

Dan stood up for us when it wasn’t easy to do. He challenged the top Republican in our state and one of the top fundraisers in the country at a time when incumbents win 94 percent of the time. It’s his willingness to stand up and fight for our values—even when it is hard—that has made him a favorite with voters. He has proven his commitment to the district and has worked to garner the support of Democrats, Republicans, and Independents. He knows the issues and the concerns of voters from Waukegan through Wilmette and from Gurnee down to Palatine and will provide the service this district needs.

Local Roots

Dan Seals is the son of a Chicago Bear and a Social Worker. The youngest of three boys, he was raised in Hyde Park and grew up in Chicago Public Schools. His parents divorced when he was young and he was raised primarily by his mother, who Dan credits with teaching him the value of working hard to make a better life for others.

Dan attended Boston University where he majored in journalism, but his first job after graduating was working as a high school teacher in Japan. Dan is fluent in Japanese. He then returned to the United States where he won a scholarship to pursue a Master’s degree in International Economics and Japanese studies from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS).

Public & Private Sector Experience

Upon completion of his Master’s degree, SAIS nominated Dan for—and he won—the prestigious Presidential Management Fellowship. This gave Dan the opportunity to serve our nation as an Aide to the Assistant Secretary of Commerce, where he tracked exports of U.S. technology to foreign markets. He also served as an Economics Fellow in the U.S. Senate, where he worked on tax, budget, economic development and international trade issues. After completing his fellowship, Dan returned home to pursue an MBA at the University of Chicago. He has held leadership positions at Sprint and GE Capital.

Dan currently works as an independent business consultant and Lecturer at Northwestern University. Among his more notable projects, he designed green job programs for the City of Chicago in an effort to increase local economic development. In his free time, he has been fighting for campaign finance reform and assisting local candidates to ensure residents have quality representation at every level of government.

The Seals Family

The 10th District is Dan’s community. Dan and his wife Mia, a business executive with an MBA from the University of Chicago, have been married for eleven years. They have lived in Wilmette for seven years with their three daughters. Our district is where his children go to school and where his tax dollars are put to work. Dan is part of each community in the 10th District. No candidate on either side of the aisle has taken as much time as Dan to get to know our district. And the district knows Dan better than any other candidate.
