Manzella joined the Veterans Health Administration in 2011 as a health science specialist fielding calls for the Veterans Crisis Line from Veterans and Veterans’ family members in distress. A Veteran himself, Manzella joined the U.S. Army in 2002, serving two combat tours of duty in Iraq and Kuwait. He also served as a staff sergeant in the New York Army National Guard.

Darren Manzella was killed in a car accident on Aug. 29, 2013. His blog, written the week before his death, honors his memory and dedication to helping Veterans and Service members live healthier, happier lives.
