David Segal

RI State Representative, Former Congressional Candidate, Demand Progress Exec Director

David Segal was a Democratic Rhode Island State Representative until January 2011, and previously served on the Providence City Council as a member of the Green Party. He was dubbed "the hippest guy in state government" and "the at-large representative for every miscreant in Rhode Island". His opinions pieces have appeared in the New York Times, Boston Globe, and other newspapers, and in a variety of online publications.

He garnered broad support from organized labor and the netroots for his 2010 Congressional campaign, for the seat vacated by Patrick Kennedy. He since co-founded Demand Progress, a million-member civil liberties and civil rights organizing outfit, where he serves as executive director.

He is a regular contributor to the blogs Rhode Island's Future and the Providence Daily Dose. More info on his political work may be found at his website.
