Deepa Jha

Core coordinator, WRA-India

Deepa may be just one woman, but as core coordinator in WRA-India’s national office in New Delhi for the last three years, she amplifies the voices demanding investments and changes to save the lives of more than 70,000 women who die every year for lack of health services. Whether assisting when WRA-India mobilized over 15,000 women to speak "truth to power" at public hearings in Orissa, or supporting the 500 students and teachers from Jamia Hamdard University who braved scorching heat to form a human chain three kilometers long on National Safe Motherhood Day, or organizing press briefings and media tours that fueled exposes of life-threatening gaps in India’s health system, Deepa "plays her part" to save women’s lives needlessly lost due to the complications of pregnancy and childbirth.
