David Helfenbein's professional focus is on strategic and crisis communication, public affairs and government and community relations. He is currently a Vice President at DKC Public Relations and previously worked for Ruder Finn and Purple Nation Solutions, a Lanny J. Davis company. He holds a law degree from Washington University in St. Louis and has used his legal background to help resolve crises and reputation concerns in the communication field. Under President Obama, David was New Media Coordinator for Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Special Assistant to the Secretary in the Office of White House Liaison, both at the U.S. Department of State. Before moving to the State Department with Clinton, he was on her Senate staff, focusing on appropriations and grants. David’s policy and communication background also includes working at The Brookings Institution for congressional scholar Thomas E. Mann, the Democratic National Convention in the Communications Office and MSNBC’s Morning Joe television show for Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski. In addition to Washington University Law School, David earned a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania, double-majoring in Communication and Public Service and Political Science. He is host of The Gaggle Podcast, writes for both The Huffington Post and LinkedIn, and occasionally appears on HuffPost Live.
