Dr. Niaz Kasravi

Dr. Niaz Kasravi is a national expert and advocate on criminal justice, social justice, and racial justice. She holds a Ph.D. in Criminology, Law and Society from the University of California, Irvine. A National Science Foundation grant allowed her to travel to Iran to work with Shirin Ebadi, the Nobel Peace Prize recipient of 2003, on human rights and the role of Iranian women in the reform movement.

Dr. Kasravi is also the former Director of the Criminal Justice Program for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) - the nation’s oldest civil rights organization. Her career also includes serving as Lead Researcher and Associate for the Domestic Human Rights Program of Amnesty International USA, helping build the program for the organization. Additionally, she has worked as Director of Community Relations for the Public Affairs Alliance of Iranian-Americans, Policy Associate for Stop Prison Rape, as well as researcher and advocate at several organizations working on human rights issues in the Unites States and Iran.
