Dr. William R. Kapfer

Vice President of LGBT Marketing, Walton Isaacson

William Kapfer is the Vice President of LGBT Marketing at Walton Isaacson, where he oversees agency-wide LGBT efforts. He is a media professional with more than 20 years of media and marketing experience for leading print, television and entertainment companies. He ran the New York based Kapfer Group LLC, a marketing communications group specializing in reaching niche audiences. During that time he served as Co-President/CMO of Window Media, the nation’s largest publisher of newspapers serving the gay and lesbian community, and Publisher of Genre Magazine, a national LGBT lifestyle magazine. In addition, he has held executive positions at both Travel + Leisure and Harper's Bazaar magazines and began his career as a publicist for Miramax Films and as a production intern in the newsroom at the MacNeil/Lehrer NewsHour.



Kapfer understands the importance of giving back, and being involved in community service. He has been recognized by a number organizations for his contributions, including being appointed by the Governor of Arizona to the Arizona Commission on the Arts; receiving the Key to the City by the Mayor of Tucson for his efforts on HIV/AIDS and LGBT issues in the community; and being named Alumnus of the year by the University of Arizona.



Kapfer was the first journalist to ever land an interview on behalf of a gay publication of a Republican presidential nominee –- Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) for the Washington Blade; he received the Puget Sound Business Journal’s ‘40 under 40’ Community Leader Award, was Named one of "The 25 Smartest People in Washington State" Washington Law & Politics and holds a Doctoral degree in Media Studies and Leadership.



Kapfer is currently serving his second board term for the GammaMu Foundation, a 501 (c) 3 organization that endows financial grants to organizations and individuals, primarily in rural America, that make available direct assistance to people with HIV/AIDS along with conducting prevention and education, as well as bestows financial support in the form of grants to organizations and individuals striving to make the world a more hospitable place for everyone regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.



Kapfer is always looking for opportunities to give his support to projects in the LGBT community, most recently he was the associate producer of the award winning documentary “Wish Me Away,” the personal and intimate look at Chely Wright, the first country music star to come out as gay.
