Dra. Evelyn Montalvo-Stanton

Dr. Montalvo-Stanton es neumóloga pediátrica y profesor de Pediatría egresada de la Escuela de Medicina & Dentistería de Nueva Jersey. Dr. Montalvo termino su residencia en pediatría en 1988 y el año siguiente fue jefe de residentes. Completé mi especialización en Neumología Pediátrica en el Hospital Presbiteriano de Columbia 1993 (hoy conocido como Hospital de Niños Morgan Stanley). Empecé mi práctica en el Centro Respiratorio de la Infancia del Hospital Atlantic Health System-Morristown Memorial durante 1994-2004. Luego regresé a UMDNJ-New Jersey como profesora en la División de Pediatría Pulmonar para estudiar a los niños de la ciudad con asma y enfermedades pulmonares.

Dr. Montalvo tienen un interés especial en la educación de la comunidad médica y consiguió una beca de la Fundación de Salud de Nueva Jersey y sanofi-aventis para crear y liderar el programa de Educación de los Niños RESPIRA. El programa está diseñado para enseñar a las familias latinas sobre el asma de sus hijos y como ser proactivos en el cuidado de su asma.

Dr. Montalvo también está interesada en las investigaciones sobre el crecimiento de los pulmones y el desarrollo, así como un interés en el tratamiento de la insuficiencia respiratoria crónica en niños con enfermedades pulmonares crónicas y enfermedades neuromusculares. También tienen un gran interés en los trastornos aerodigestivo y le gustaría desarrollar un programa como tal en una zona que es muy necesario en el centro urbano.

Ella ha sido miembro de la Junta Directiva a de la Asociación Pulmonar de New Jersey American y miembro de la Asamblea Nacional de la Asociación Nacional Americana del Pulmón. En 2000, Dr. Montalvo recibió el Premio Bernard Gregory para la Diversidad Cultural otorgado por la Asociación Pulmonar Americana por el modelo que RESPIRA ha demostrado ser para promover la educación sobre el asma en las comunidades urbanas. También fue galardonada con el Premio Emily Bissell de la ALA de Nueva Jersey en 2004. Además, fue la presidenta de la Sección Pediátrica & Torácica de la Sociedad de Nueva Jersey, hasta el año 2008. Dr. Montalvo-Stanton a Pediatric Pulmonologist and Assistant Professor of Pediatrics who graduated from UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School and completed her Pediatric Residency in 1988. She was also chief resident the following year. She completed her Pediatric Pulmonology fellowship at Columbia Presbyterian Babies Hospital in 1993 (now Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital). After completion of her fellowship, she had practiced for the Atlantic Health System-Morristown Memorial Hospital, Respiratory Center for Children from 1994-2004 (Pediatric Pulmonology Hospital based practice). She returned to UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School as a faculty member in the Pediatric Pulmonary Division as she desired to return to academia to work with Inner city children with asthma and pulmonary related illnesses.

She has a special interest in community medical education and was awarded a grant from the Healthcare Foundation of NJ and sanofi-aventis for the children’s RESPIRA education program for which she the Founder and Director. The program is designed to teach Latino families about their children’s asthma and become proactive in their child’s asthma care. She also received other grants for this program which include funds for children who have no insurance and cannot afford to purchase asthma medications or equipment. She also interested in lung growth and development as well as an interest in the management of chronic respiratory failure in children with chronic lung disease and neuromuscular disease.

In addition, she was a Board of Directors for the New Jersey American Lung Association, and National Assembly member of the National American Lung Association. She’s a proud recipient of the 2000 Bernard Gregory Award for Cultural Diversity given by the National ALA by providing Inner City Asthma Education to the community using my RESPIRA model. She was also awarded the Emily Bissell Award 2004 from the ALA of NJ. In addition, she chaired the Pediatric Section of the New Jersey Thoracic Society until 2008. She’s a Fellow member of the American Thoracic Society, American Academy of Pediatrics and American College of Chest Physicians. In addition, she has been recognized by Best Doctors in America, Top Pediatrician award.
