Edward M. Epstein

Art critic

Edward M. Epstein is a critic-at-large who writes about contemporary art for Art Papers, ArtiCritical.com, and Fallon & Rosof’s Artblog. Based in Philadelphia, he covers exhibitions in New York, Atlanta, and overseasin South Africa. Epstein’s writing places the various disciplines of contemporaryart making in their larger political and social context.

A promoter of visual art and an educator about community-based art making, Epstein founded AIRSpace (40th St.Artist-in-Residence) in 2003 to provide studio space and exhibition opportunities to Philadelphia artists. He has held teaching positions at the University of Pennsylvania in both the School of Design and the Graduate School of Education, as well as at Georgia Tech and Spelman College.
