Campaign Director, MomsRising.org

Elisa Batista is a campaign director at MomsRising.org, a million-member organization advocating for policies related to family economic security, child health and ending discrimination against mothers. She heads the fairness for immigrant families campaign, and co-directs the organization's Spanish-language initiatives and outreach to Latina mothers, MamásConPoder.org.

She is also a bilingual journalist and award-winning blogger. She is the co-founder of the popular parenting website, MotherTalkers.com, which was named a “favorite mom blogger” by Ms. Magazine. In addition, her writing has appeared at the Huffington Post, Daily Kos, FOX News Latino and Wired News. She has also won an award by Latinos in Tech Innovation and Social Media, one of the largest online organizations of Latinos, for her use of social media tools to promote causes.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Elisa is an active participant of her local community in the Bay Area of California. Over a decade ago, she helped found a Spanish immersion and international pre-kindergarten to 8th grade school, the Escuela Bilingüe Internacional in Oakland and Emeryville, California. She sits on the board of directors at the Ecology Center, a non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring and building a sustainable, healthy and just future in the East Bay and beyond. She was also appointed by Berkeley City Councilmember Lori Droste on the Children, Youth and Recreation Commission entrusted to support local programs that serve the youth.

When Batista is not on her computer, she is shuttling her children or training for races. She lives in Berkeley, California, with her husband, son and daughter.
