Erinn Furey

Social Worker, Community Organizer, Rabble Rouser, Professional Singer, former American Idol finalist & uwavering advocate for LGBTQA rights

A NYS licensed social worker and Certified School Social Worker, Erinn is currently the Director of the LGBTQA & Social Justice Center at Pace University and a Staff Associate at the Columbia University School of Social Work. Erinn also works as a private consultant for schools and families on Long Island and New York supporting a transgender student. Erin received her MSSW from Columbia University School of Social Work in 2011 where she was also Vice President of the Student Union Executive Board. She has since completed training from Theatre of The Oppressed, Forum Theatre Project, The AIDS Institute and was the Suffolk County Delegate for NASW from 2012-2014. Erin has a history of working within an LGBTQ youth agency, in high-schools and incarceration centers for youth, in residential programs for children and adults with differing abilites, at a phone and text crisis hotline, and in case management for individuals with Autism. With additional training in art, music and drama therapy, Erin integrates creative mediums into both her therapeutic and programmatic work. Recently Erin was named a 'Young Woman Shaping What's to Come' by Levi Strauss Jean Company and was chosen as '100 Women We Love' in Go! Magazine. Erin has presented at the National Transgender Health Conference, Empire State Pride Agenda's Equality and Justice Day, on Nick News with Linda Ellerbee, alongside Lady Gaga's Born This Way Foundatin and for many schools, universities and organizations. Her work is strengths based and strongly framed by issues of social justice, intersectionality and transgender rights. Erinn is also a former off Broadway performer and American Idol finalist.
