Felton Newell

Attorney, 2010 Candidate for California's 33rd District, US House of Representatives

Born and raised in Northern California, Felton Newell majored in American Government at Georgetown University. While in college, Newell served as National Treasurer of the College Democrats of America. At the age of 22, Newell worked in former President Bill Clinton’s White House in the office of Legislative Affairs. After working in the White House, Felton attended law school at the University of Chicago, where he studied under President Barack Obama. After law school, Newell practiced as a lawyer in national law firms for eight years. In 2006, Newell left his corporate law job to serve the people of this community as a prosecutor in the Los Angeles City Attorney’s office. Newell has prosecuted many criminal misdemeanor cases including cases involving domestic violence, vandalism and criminal assault. Newell also has forced lax property owners to retake control of their properties from gang members and drug dealers, who were using the buildings as bases for criminal activity that terrorized innocent residents. Newell currently serves as a neighborhood prosecutor in downtown Los Angeles, where he meets with community, business and political leaders to identify the quality of life crimes affecting the citizens who work and live downtown, and develops strategies to reduce those crimes.

Felton, 37, is a Democratic candidate to represent California’s 33rd district in the United States House of Representatives.
