Greg Gage

Neuroscientist; Co-founder, Backyard Brains; TED Fellow

Greg Gage is a neuroscientist, biomedical engineer, co-founder of Backyard Brains, and TED Fellow. He spent many years as an electrical engineer designing retail systems before returning to grad school to pursue an interest in neuroscience. While working on his PhD, he and labmate Tim Marzullo often volunteered to speak in K-12 classrooms to spark the interest of Neuroscience at a younger age. Backyard Brains grew out of a frustration to actually show kids how the brain works, and not rely on plastic ineffective models. With their new inventions, teachers and general public could affordably experiment with living nervous systems... effectively teaching that the brain is alive, electrical, and wonderfully dynamic. Greg resides in Michigan, likes to play piano, ride his Dutch bike, and listens to the Detroit Tigers.
