Gregory Shaffer

Gregory Shaffer holds the Chancellor’s Professorship at the University of California, Irvine, with appointments in the School of Law and the Department of Political Science. He is founder and director of the Center on Globalization, Law and Society (GLAS). He is the acclaimed author of seven books on law, globalization, and international organizations, including Transnational Legal Orders; Transnational Legal Ordering and State Change; Transatlantic Governance in the Global Economy; Defending Interests; and When Cooperation Fails: The International Law and Politics of Genetically Modified Foods. He is on the Board of Editors of the American Journal of International Law, the Journal of International Economic Law, and Transnational Environmental Law. His prolific work has appeared in the law reviews at Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Columbia, NYU, Virginia, Duke, and Cornell, among others. Gregory frequently lectures around the world on issues involving global trade, international dispute settlement, regulatory cooperation, and their relation to economic development, environmental protection and public health. He has a JD from Stanford Law School and a BA from Dartmouth College.
