Herbert Hendin, M.D. is Chief Executive Officer and Director of the Healing the Hidden Wounds of War project of Suicide Prevention Initiatives (SPI) and Professor of Psychiatry at New York Medical College. He has been the Principal Investigator on research and treatment studies of suicide and suicide attempts among college students, substance abusers, African- Americans, and veterans and has done comparable work in the Scandinavian countries, the Netherlands, Hungary, and China. A major focus of his work is on improving the treatment of veterans with PTSD and preventing suicide among those who are at risk.
