Hind Kabawat

Hind Kabawat is the Director of Interfaith Peacebuilding at the Center for World Religions, Diplomacy and Conflict Resolution (CRDC) at George Mason University. Hind was raised in Syria and now lives in Toronto. Because of her dedicated efforts to build peace in the Middle East, she was named a Tanenbaum Peacemaker in Action in 2007. When Hind became a Peacemaker, Syria was a relatively peaceful country. Since that time, Syria has descended into civil war. Hind leads civil society building efforts in Syria that promote interfaith tolerance and build cooperation, and conflict resolution and reconciliation skills among grass roots activists. Hind is an International Counsel at Janssen and Associates, Toronto. She holds a BA in Economics from Damascus University, a degree in Law from the Arab University, Beirut; a Certificate in Conflict Resolution from the University of Toronto; a Certificate in Strategy Leadership from the University of Toronto, and a Masters in Law and Diplomacy from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. She was awarded the Public Diplomacy Award from CRDC, George Mason University in 2009 and appointed as the Ambassador of Conflict Resolution and member of the Global Agenda Council on the Future of the Middle East, World Economic Forum, Davos. Hind is on the Advisory Board for the World Bank in the Middle Eastern issues; is a member in the Global Agenda Council for war intervention, World Economic Forum; and is a founding member of the Syrian Centre of Dialogue.
