Ian Stewart

Ian Stewart is Emeritus Professor of Mathematics at Warwick University in England. He is an active research mathematician with over 180 published papers. He is best known for his popular science writing and broadcasting on mathematical themes, for which he was awarded the Royal Society's Faraday Medal. He has also received the Gold Medal, Institute of Mathematics and Its Applications, the Ferran Sunyer i Balaguer Prize, the Premio Peano, the AAAS Award for the Public Understanding of Science, an ABSW Science Writing Prize, and the Zeeman Medal for mathematics communication. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 2001. He has published more than 80 books including Does God Play Dice?, Nature's Numbers, the bestselling Professor Stewart's Cabinet of Mathematical Curiosities, and The Science of Discworld I, II, III with Terry Pratchett and Jack Cohen. He has published a number of science fiction short stories and the novels Wheelers and Heaven with Jack Cohen. His most recent books include Visions of Infinity, Symmetry: a Very Short Introduction, and The Science of Discworld IV: Judgement Day (with Terry Pratchett and Jack Cohen).
