Jacob Dayan is the Consul General of Israel in Los Angeles, serving as Israel's senior representative in the southwestern United States. Before assuming this post, he was selected to prepare a strategic plan on the feasibility of opening negotiations with Syria. Previously he served as chief of staff to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Tzipi Livni and former Minister of Foreign Affairs Silvan Shalom. In this position he was involved in policy formation and implementation. Earlier, as policy adviser to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dayan was responsible for the minister's work in U.S., Asian, East European and Middle Eastern affairs. He served in the role of political counselor at the Embassy of Israel in Washington, D.C. He has also held the post of deputy chief at the Israeli embassy in Athens. Dayan has a bachelor's degree in classics and history from Tel Aviv University.
