James Block

Political Theory and American Culture professor, DePaul University

James Block has taught Political Theory and American Culture at DePaul for three decades. He has written for journals of opinion and the New York Times, and his book A Nation of Agents: The American Path to a Modern Self and Society was published in 2002 by Harvard University Press. A new book coming this February 2012, The Crucible of Consent: American Child Rearing and the Forging of Liberal Society, traces the role of child shaping and socialization as the central institution in American national formation, and will also be published by Harvard.
