Janina Gavankar

Actor. Musician Geek.

Janina Gavankar is best known for her shapeshifting - both on camera, and behind it. You may recognize her as the harrowed shifter-mom Luna on True Blood, or the involuntary fantasy football obsession Shiva, from The League, maybe 2000 year old scorned witch on The Vampire Diaries, or even as the swashbuckling lesbian lotharia Papi on the L Word.
Producing her first feature this year, Janina has been quietly producing for years.

Musically, The New York Post might have put it best, describing Janina Gavankar as an “Audio schizo.” This proves true when you listen or watch the self-produced music/film/art pieces she's released in the last few years. The film festival award winning “Waiting for Godot,” crosses from an filthy electro drop to a heavenly a capella choir, her reimagining of Frank Ocean's “Swim Good” is a neo-classical vocal feat, “Kali Ma” is a fire spitting dubstep banger, her take on Kanye West's “Lock Lockdown” is an emotional roller coaster set in 6/8 time, her last music video endeavor included a 50 person drum corp, and a drone, and her last live performance was a jazz percussion duet rendition of Prince's Diamonds and Pearls with Questlove at Carnegie Hall.

This year, she's back to working on The Mysteries of Laura, as well as indies Sidney Hall, and scifi thriller “Cortex”.
