Jean Kennedy Smith is the current Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the Joseph P. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. She served as the United States Ambassador to Ireland from 1993 until 1998. She is the founder of VSA Arts, an educational affiliate of the Kennedy Center that provides opportunities in the creative arts for people with disabilities. In collaboration with George Plimpton, Mrs. Smith wrote “Very Special Artists: Chronicles of Courage.” Mrs. Smith has received numerous awards and honors, including the Jefferson Award for Outstanding Public Service from the Institute for Public Service and the Capital Children’s Museum Humanitarian Award. She is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and currently serves on the board of the International Rescue Committee.
