Lebanese musician
Johnny Farraj is a Lebanese musician of Palestinian descent. Having studied the oud with Simon Shaheen, the riq with Michel Merhej, and classical Arabic singing with Rima Khcheich, he regularly performs the classical Arabic music repertoire throughout the U.S. He has performed with Iraqi American playwright Heather Raffo in the musical adaptation of her play Nine Parts of Desire, and appeared as a guest musician in the movie Rachel Getting Married by Jonathan Demme. He is a regular contributor of Arabic music articles and the creator of the online resource on classical Arab music theory, maqamworld.com. Johnny is based in New York City.
