Jonathan Kalan is an award-winning photographer, journalist and storyteller specializing in innovation, technology, entrepreneurship and off-beat stories in emerging markets. He has lived for extensive periods in South Asia, Africa and the Middle East, and worked with media companies, tech startups, and social enterprises.

Jonathan has reported for Foreign Policy, BBC, The Atlantic, Al Jazeera, The Boston Globe, France24, SkyNews, Global Post, Huffington Post, Makeshift Magazine, Christian Science Monitor, Wamda, The Toronto Star and more.

He has photographed for The New York Times, Associated Press, The Guardian, BBC, Financial Times, Makeshift Magazine, and International Federation of the Red Cross, among others.

He is currently the Executive Editor of Timeline, a San Francisco-based media startup that brings historical context to news.

Previously based in Nairobi, Kenya from 2010-2014, Jonathan was a columnist for BBC Future, and Sandbox Network's Nairobi co-ambassador.
