José Antonio Meade

Dr. Meade was born in Mexico City, Mexico. He attended elementary and secondary schools in that city and received a degree in Economics from the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM) in 1993. After two years of studies at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, he received a Law degree. In 1997, he received a PhD in Economics from Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut.

Dr. Meade has taught Microeconomics and Macroeconomics courses at ITAM and Yale University, as well as courses in Economic Analysis of the Law at ITAM’s Masters Program in Public Policy.

He published the Paper: “Do Sentencing Guidelines Raise the Cost of Punishment?; National Bureau of Economic Research, January 1998.

He has received recognition for his research on Economic Analysis of the Law, an Honors Degree in Economics and the National Tlacaelel Award.

Dr. Meade has served as:

General Director of Financial Planning at the National Commission for the Retirement Savings’ System (Comisión Nacional del Sistema de Ahorro para el Retiro (CONSAR),

Deputy Secretary of Bank Savings Protection at Mexico’s Institute for the Protection of Bank Savings (Instituto para la Protección al Ahorro Bancario (IPAB)

General Director of Banking and Savings at Mexico’s Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (Secretaría de Hacienda y Crédito Público).

Prior to assuming the position as Financiera Rural’s Chief Executive Officer, he served as CEO of the National Bank for Rural Credit (Banco Nacional de Crédito Rural, S.N.C., (BANRURAL)) currently in liquidation.
