Kate Shindle

Actress, former Miss America

Kate Shindle is Actors' Equity Association’s Eastern Regional Vice President.

In her role as Eastern Regional Vice President, Ms. Shindle serves on numerous committees, including the President’s Planning Committee, House Affairs, National Public Policy Committee and chairs the Eastern Regional Board. She is also a member of the Centennial Committee, in preparation for Equity’s 100th Anniversary in 2013. her other committee work includes the Production Contract, Media and New Technology, Off-Off Broadway, the 2009 Joint Officer Nominating Committee, and she chaired the 2009 Eastern Nominating Committee.

A member of Equity since 1999, Ms. Shindle has co-starred as Elle Woods’ brunette nemesis, Vivienne Kensington, in the Broadway production of Legally Blonde. Her previous outings on Broadway include Sally Bowles in Cabaret and Lucy Harris in Jekyll & Hyde. Her extensive theatrical credits also include A Midsummer Night's Dream, the world premier of Claudia Shear’s Restoration at La Jolla Playhouse, After the Fall at The Alley, The Woman Upstairs, Gypsy, Into the Woods and Himself and Nora at The Old Globe. TV/Film credits include Capote, The Stepford Wives, and the television hit White Collar. She has played multiple concert halls across the country and won the Outstanding Individual Performance Award from the New York Musical Theatre Festival for her starring role in Sympathy Jones. She most recently starred on Broadway as “The Mad Hatter” in Wonderland.

Ms. Shindle has been an aggressive and outspoken HIV/AIDS activist since her year as Miss America 1988, and she is considered one of the leading AIDS activists of her generation.
