Kavita Mehra

For nearly 15 years, Kavita Mehra has dedicated her career to building equity and justice through her commitment to the not-for-profit sector.

Currently, Kavita is the Executive Director of Sakhi for South Asian Women. Her work began at Womankind (formerly New York Asian Women's Center), after which she worked with the New York Taxi Workers Alliance, Easter Seals NY, and South Asian Youth Action (SAYA!). She stepped into a management position in 2009, while at SAYA!, as Development Manager and from there held management positions at Asian Women in Business and GlamourGals Foundation, Inc., and the Boys & Girls Club of Newark (BGCN).

Kavita is an Advisory Board Member for the New Leaders Council’s New Jersey Chapter, a Board Member for LadyDrinks, and an Advisory Board Member for I Have A Dream Newark.

Kavita has blogged for the White House initiative Act To Change as well as the Huffington Post. Her speaking engagements include Columbia University, Barnard College, Harvard University, the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Conference, and the Women’s Economic Forum. She has also been featured in leading media outlets and in “Roshni: Emerging Indian Global Leaders” for her work in the not-for-profit sector. Kavita was also honored by Visions VCB Manhattan Advisory Board for Program Development.

In 2016, Kavita completed the Boys & Girls Clubs of America Advanced Leadership Program and in 2014, she was a Lead New Jersey Fellow and an Athena Mastermind at Barnard College. In 2013, Kavita was a New Leaders Council-New Jersey Fellow.

Kavita completed her Bachelor of Arts from New York University with a double major in both History and Gender Studies. She also holds a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies, with a concentration in South Asian Studies, from Columbia University, as well as a certificate in Business Excellence from The Columbia Business School.
