Born and raised in Northern California. Earned bachelor's degree in biology from UC Berkeley ('76). Awarded MDiv ('81) and DMin ('90) from Fuller Theological Seminary. Has served on the pastoral staff of Evergreen Baptist Church of Los Angeles (now in Rosemead, CA) since 1981, leading it to become one of the first English-only, pan-Asian American, multi-ethnic, multi-generational church in N America. Became Exec Director of Fuller's new Asian American Initiative and assistant professor of AA church studies in 2014. Has been married to wife 'Snoopy' since 1981, and became a dad in 1999. They live with their two dogs in Sierra Madre, CA.
