Kendra Davenport

Development and Communications Officer, Africare

Kendra Davenport is Africare’s chief development and communications officer. In her role, Mrs. Davenport spearheads a comprehensive development program to ensure that Africare continues to grow through careful cultivation and diversification of individual, corporate and foundation support, and the development of new partnerships. Mrs. Davenport is also responsible for the management and strategic direction of Africare’s online and print publications, and media and public relations.

She brings more than 24 years of experience in strategic planning, fundraising management and non-profit marketing to the position. Before joining Africare, Mrs. Davenport was the director of corporate and foundation relations at Project HOPE, where she was instrumental in securing major grants from national and international corporations and foundations, created and implemented several innovative revenue generating models, and grew HOPE’s major fundraising event by more than 30 percent.

Prior to joining Project HOPE, Mrs. Davenport served as the Director of Development for the Population Reference Bureau, (PRB). In that role, she designed a comprehensive planned giving program and worked closely with the PRB’s communications department to advance funding and marketing initiatives, primarily through grants. For nearly 10 years, Mrs. Davenport worked for the National Sudden Infant Death Syndrome Alliance, (SIDS Alliance). Initially, she served in various field-service roles liaising with Alliance Affiliates across the country, and helping develop stronger fundraising, marketing and public relations programs, before becoming the national Director of Development for the Alliance. In that role, Mrs. Davenport implemented several highly successful national fundraising events and developed a national grant-writing program, training Affiliates in more than 40 states to research, write and submit successful grants and proposals.
