Kenneth Pomeranz is Chancellor’s Professor of history at UC Irvine. His best known books are The Great Divergence: China, Europe and the Making of the Modern World Economy and (with Steven Topik) The World that Trade Created: Society, Culture and the World Economy, 1400 to the Present . He is a co-founder of The China Beat: Blogging How the East is Read and has three edited and co-edited volumes due out in Spring, 2009: China in 2008: A Year of Great Significance, The Environment and world History, 1500 to the Present, and The Pacific in the Age of Early Industrialization. He also co-edits The Journal of Global History.
