Kenneth Thompson

Kenneth R. Thompson is Professor and the former Chair of the Management Department at DePaul University. Ken received his Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska in 1977. He has published in several journals including The Academy of Management Executive, Academy of Management Learning and Education, Organizational Dynamics, the Journal of Social Psychology, and the Journal of Leadership and Organizational Studies. He has co-authored four textbooks and four invited chapters. Ken's current research interests include application of Total Quality Management, Balanced Scorecard application, leadership, & goal setting.

Ken was active in the Organization Behavior division of the academy as a member of the executive committee, organizer of the junior faculty workshop in 2002, and the former Chair of the Teaching Initiative Task Force. In the role of the teaching initiative task force, he has worked with others to provide teaching workshops and symposiums at the annual Academy of Management meeting.

Ken has been President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Midwest Division of the National Academy of Management. He is on the editorial review board of four professional journals and is the senior editor for the Journal of Leadership Studies. From 1984-1986, Ken was the Director of the Center for Management and Executive Development for the University of Arkansas and was a major developer of the Walton Institute of Leadership.

Currently, Ken is a senior lead examiner evaluating organizations for the Lincoln Quality Award, the state of Illinois's highest quality award and is a National Quality Award Examiner (the Baldrige National Quality Award Program). Ken was awarded DePaul's Quality of Instruction Council Teaching Effectiveness Award and was one of two faculty members from DePaul University that year nominated for the Carnegie Foundation National Teaching Award.
