I've published memoirs (six), young adult novels, a corporate fairytale, the autobiography of a river, and an award-winning book about the making of memoir (Handling the Truth: On the Writing of Memoir). At the University of Pennsylvania, where I teach creative nonfiction, I won the 2015/2016 Beltran Teaching Award. I'm a monthly contributor to the Philadelphia Inquirer and a frequent reviewer for the Chicago Tribune.
