Lantern

Online and mobile tool that empowers people to conquer anxiety, stress, and eating disorders

Lantern is an online and mobile program that provides an affordable and convenient way to improve emotional well-being. As a result, Lantern addresses the three most common reasons that people don’t get the care they need: stigma, access to care, and the cost of therapy. Lantern combines 15-minute interactive sessions with professional coaching to empower people to handle any situation and live the life they want to lead.

The techniques and exercises in the daily sessions are based on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), the most effective method for treating emotional issues like anxiety, depression and eating disorders. Each Lantern user is paired with a professional coach and can exchange an unlimited number of messages to guarantee they get the support and guidance they need. Since launching in October 2014, thousands of users have tackled their anxiety, stress, body image and disordered eating challenges with Lantern. On average, people report their daily anxiety has decreased 40% after completing 30-40 Lantern sessions.

Lantern's own programs have undergone rigorous scientific research. In a study in partnership with Stanford University and Washington University in St. Louis, Lantern’s body image program was found to reduce eating disorders by 50%. Lantern’s body image program is currently being studied at over 40 colleges and universities across the U.S., and Lantern is active in ongoing research around the world.
