Pediatrician mother of 3, author, educator, health communicator/innovator working to improve the lives of children, families, communities

Dr. Laura Jana is an Omaha-based pediatrician and mother of three, national health communicator, and the award-winning co-author of Heading Home with Your Newborn (2nd Ed, AAP 2010) and Food Fights (2nd Ed, AAP, 2012), as well as three children’s books. She received her BS degree in Cellular Molecular Biology at the University of Michigan, her MD from Case Western Reserve University, and completed her pediatric training at both the University of California-San Francisco and Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. Having first served as a consultant to Dr. Benjamin Spock and co-founded The Dr. Spock Company – one of the first online health sites, she subsequently founded Practical Parenting Consulting.

Well recognized nationally for her ongoing efforts to promote healthy lifestyles for children, families and communities, Dr. Jana continues serves as an expert consultant for academic and government organizations, non-profits, and major corporations alike. In addition to providing more than a decade's worth of her reality health and parenting advice to media outlets nationwide, including The Today Show, CNN, Good Morning America, Parents magazine, NPR, Time, People, The New York Times and USAToday, Dr. Jana serves as a media spokesperson for the American Academy of Pediatrics. Having served on the national Executive Committee for Early Education and Child Care and after 9 years owning her own Primrose School - a 200-student, accredited educational child care center - Dr Jana is actively involved in driving the professionalization of and investment in early childhood, as well as focused on health technology innovation both in the U.S. and globally.
