Laurin Mayeno wants others to benefit from what she has learned as the mother of a multiracial, gay son who was a gender-expansive child. When her son was growing up, there were few resources to help them deal with challenges they faced. She launched Out Proud Families (outproudfamilies.com) to make a difference for LGBTQ+ young people, their families, and the organizations that serve them. She supports organizations, families, and youth to build bridges of understanding around gender diversity and sexual orientation. Her new children's book, One of a Kind Like Me/Único Como Yo is a bilingual (Spanish/English) story about a little boy who wants to dress up as a princess. Check out her website for information about her services, as well as videos, articles, books and other resources, particularly for families of color and mixed-race families. Laurin is co-founder of Somos Familia, an intergenerational organization that supports families with LGBTQ children in the Latino community. She has over 15 years of experience working as a trainer and facilitator on topics of cultural diversity, equity and multicultural communication.
