Lawrence McGovern

Director and development committee chair, Legal Services of the Hudson Valley

Lawrence McGovern, of the White Plains law firm McGovern & Dawson, is a director and development committee chair of Legal Services of the Hudson Valley.

A past-president of Legal Services of the Hudson Valley, which provides free legal services in civil matters affecting the basic necessities of life to poor and low-income people in the seven-county area north of New York City, McGovern also was honored with a Partners In Justice Award in 2008 for his dedication and commitment to indigent families in the area.

His law firm was started by his father in 1974 and moved from New York City to White Plains in 1986. It specializes in civil law, trusts and estates, estate planning, real estate and legal services for not-for-profit organizations.

Mr. McGovern grew up in the Bronx and is a graduate of Boston College and Vermont Law School. He proudly notes that he won the highly coveted History Medal upon graduation from Our Lady of Refuge Grammar School and that in high school he guarded Kareem Abdul Jabbar (then known as Lew Alcindor).
