Dr. Maciej Bartkowski is a political scientist specializing in nonviolent resistance movements and civilian-led struggles for democracy, human rights and national liberation. He is the book editor of Recovering Nonviolent History: Civil Resistance in Liberation Struggles (2013) that highlights the role of nonviolent resistance in numerous cases of national struggles for self-rule and independence. He is also the Senior Director at the International Center on Nonviolent Conflict and an Adjunct Professors at Johns Hopkins University, Krieger School of Arts and Sciences and Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy where he teaches strategic nonviolent conflict. Dr. Bartkowski received his PhD. and M.A. degrees from Central European University in Budapest, Hungary and his B.A. from American University of Central Asia in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. His writings have focused on Syria, ISIS, Ukraine and Russia and nonviolent resistance. The views expressed in this blog are his own.
