Marcella Grillo

High school participant in Girls Write Now

Marcela Grillo was born and raised in Downtown Brooklyn, New York. She is currently a high school senior at the Institute for Collaborative Education (I.C.E.) in lower Manhattan, and is a soon to be intern at the NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases Center for Children. Her writing career began when she was ten years old--crafting stories under the instruction of playwright Crystal Skillman. She soon became a frequent contributor to her high school’s literary magazine, DEEDS; and has submitted work to the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. She is an active member of her school’s jazz band as a pianist and songwriter. Her songs will be performed at the Hard Rock Café - New York, and at the Subway Moon Jazz Festival in Munich, Germany. She has traveled to Europe and South America, and when she’s not writing, she’s playing piano or spending time with family and friends. Marcella is a first-year mentee at Girls Write Now.
