Mashal Shah

Mashal Shah is a senior at Georgetown University, majoring in Government and Justice and Peace Studies with a focus on South Asia. Ms. Shah is this year’s recipient of the David F. Andretta Summer Research Scholarship funded by the Center of Social Justice at Georgetown University, Washington, DC. She has spent her summer traveling around Pakistan to examine the marginalization of the transgender population in Pakistan. She has been interviewing members of the khwaja sera community, lawyers, human rights activists, and government officials on the status of human rights within the transgender community. At the conclusion of her research project, she will be providing recommendations to the Pakistani government to better integrate the transgender community into mainstream society.
