Michael (Mickey) R. Gardner

Michael (Mickey) R. Gardner is a communications policy lawyer. Gardner is also the pro bono Chairman of the United States Telecommunications Training Institute (USTTI), a non-profit international training initiative which he founded in 1982 while serving as U.S. Ambassador to the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference in Nairobi, Kenya. To date, the USTTI has graduated 9,104 women and men who are currently managing the communications systems in 171 developing countries. Gardner has served on four Presidential Commissions under Presidents Reagan, Ford and Nixon and taught for eight years on the Modern American Presidency at Georgetown University. His book, Harry Truman and Civil Rights: Moral Courage and Political Risks, was awarded the Henry Adams Prize for 2003 by the Society for History in the Federal Government.
