Through one-person comedies and lively lectures, Peterson explores LGBTQ issues, sexism, racism, privilege, gender, and climate change. As a gay Bible scholar he asks, "Who in the bible transgresses and transcends gender?" and in response created the one-person performance, "Transfigurations--Transgressing Gender in the Bible," now available streaming on Amazon and on DVD. A survivor of gay conversion therapy, Peterson has successfully used comic storytelling to engage audiences in deeper discussions. Peterson and his partner, the South African gay author, Glen Retief, believe art is essential in communicating complicated issues with the public.
