Patricia Guthrie is a Seattle-based journalist who's specialized in writing about public health, chronic diseases and aging as a newspaper staff reporter and freelance writer. A Harvard Nieman Journalism fellow, and Kiplinger fellow at The Ohio State University, she recently traveled to Israel as a sponsored Ben-Gurion University of the Negev science/medical media team. She won the George Polk Award for Local Reporting for a series she she co-wrote on chronic alcoholism in Gallup, N.M. Her articles have led to Congressional hearings, legislative changes, major reforms and public scrutiny. She's won numerous awards for narrative story-telling and reporting on healthcare disparity and social justice issues.
