Reem Akkad

TV News Producer; Mom

Reem Akkad is both a dedicated mother and television news producer.

She began her career at ABC's Washington DC bureau in 2002, answering phones and passing around scripts. A year later, she became Sam Donaldon's associate producer, and learned about honest journalism from one of the best journalists in the United States.

In 2005 she packed her bags and moved to New York City, where she attended Columbia's School of International and Public Affairs. She also worked for Good Morning America on the weekends.

After graduating in 2007, Reem got married and moved to Southern California where she only lasted for three months. Seeking to be closer to the world of international news, she and her husband moved back to DC where they currently reside with their baby boy.

Reem is currently a program editor at Al Jazeera English. She recently began a blog called The Real Moms of OC and DC, where she and her sister, Nour Akkad, share their experiences as first time moms.
