Sanford Jay Rosen has been a tenured law professor, and a senior attorney at three national civil rights organizations, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), the Mexican-American Legal Defense Fund (MALDEF), and the Council on Legal Education Opportunity (CLEO). He has been in private practice in San Francisco since 1976, and is one of the founding partners of Rosen Bien Galvan & Grunfeld LLP, a firm nationally known for its groundbreaking civil rights litigation. Mr. Rosen has tried many commercial and civil rights and civil liberties cases, including the retrial and settlement of the Kent State shootings civil damages cases. He has also argued many appeals, including making several arguments in the Supreme Court of the United States. Recently, many of his cases have involved pursuing the rights of LGBT people, including numerous amici curiae submitted to the Supreme Court of the United States and the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Third and Ninth Circuit.
