Sharai Lewis-Gruss

Urban Geographer

Sharai Lewis-Gruss is RPA’s geographic information systems manager. She is responsible for RPA’s spatial and data analysis, focusing on the fourth regional plan and other research initiatives. Sharai joined RPA in 2013, after a stint as a GIS specialist with the Federal Emergency Management Agency working on Hurricane Sandy response and recovery efforts. Previously, Sharai has done internships at New York City’s Department of Parks and Recreation and at the United Nations’ Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation program. She also worked as a program assistant for the International Union for Conservation of Nature in Bangkok. She received a B.A. from Middlebury College in environmental studies, and a GIS certificate from Hunter College. She currently is pursuing a master’s in geography at Hunter.
