Shinya Yamanaka

Director/Professor of the Center for iPS Cell Research and Application (CiRA) at Kyoto University

Born in 1962, he received his MD from Kobe University and PhD from Osaka City University Graduate School of Medicine. His primary vision is to bring iPS cell technology to human health care. To make this goal a reality, he is promoting basic and applied research at CiRA to develop new cures for intractable diseases. He shared the 2012 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine with Dr. John Gurdon.
