Iranian community leader
Soona Samsami was born in Isfahan, Iran. She studied to be a city planner. When the Revolution came in 1979, her field of work—architecture—was closed to women. Soona left for the United States and studied at Michigan State University. She then became an Iranian community leader—teaching and training Iranian women in the U.S. to organize in support of democratic change in Iran. Soona speaks at conferences worldwide.
