Stefanie Chiras, PhD

Manager, System & Technology Group Design Center, IBM

Stefanie Chiras. PhD, is currently a manager and leader in IBM’s System and Technology Group Design Center in Austin, Texas. She has a breadth of technical experience and has served IBM in multiple divisions after joining IBM Research in 2001. She seeks continuously seeks opportunities to work across technical disciplines and help customers.

Chiras obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Harvard University in 1993. She earned a Masters and PhD degrees in Materials Science from the University of California - Santa Barbara. Upon completion of her degrees, she joined the Princeton Materials Institute of Princeton University in a research post doctorial capacity, collaborating with the Mechanical and Aerospace Department. She is a member of the Society of Women Engineers, IEEE and Women in Technology International.

Outside of work, Chiras’ life is completed by being a wife and Mom of a six-year-old daughter. She loves to do home improvements and “build things,” and does a great deal of education outreach in the area of science to help spread the word of the creativity that is found in an engineering career.
