The mission of Student Advocacy, a powerful and effective voice for families with students who are educationally at risk, is to ensure that students receive the education to which they are legally entitled and which enables them to succeed. Through the services of our highly trained attorneys and advocates, we

- Interpret educational evaluations and identify the child’s educational needs;
- Identify legal and educational issues;
- Facilitate problem-solving between home and school;
- Empower parents and students to be active participants in the educational process;
- Coordinate and collaborate to connect families to community services;
- Provide literature and conduct workshops to educate parents and professionals on children’s educational rights; and
- Identify public policy issues and advocate for systemic change in the school system.

As a result of our help, young people, who would have failed, been suspended, or dropped out, are instead back in school and beginning to improve their school performance. In fact, just 3 months after our advocacy, 9 out of 10 children are improving academically according to reports from their parents. In the process, we ensure that tax investments in public schools benefit even the most at-risk students.

Since 1982, we have honed our unique approach to advocacy combining both legal and educational expertise. We provide technical assistance or representation for about 1,000 local families each year. Through our website, we provide technical assistance to families and professionals throughout the United States.
