Director, Youth & Campus Engagement Program, Human Rights Campaign

Sultan Shakir is the Director of the Youth & Campus Engagement Program at the Human Rights Campaign. In his role he leads a team whose mission is to empower LGBT youth to be leaders on campus and in their communities. A highlight of the program is the Historically Black Colleges and Universities Leadership and Career Summit, which brings together 30 student leaders from HBCUs around the country for a four-day summit on identity development, leadership training and career readiness. The summit empowers and supports black LGBT youth to advance the culture and policies of their campuses in order to create environments that are sensitive to the needs of LGBT students, faculty and staff in higher education. The HBCU Summit’s newly created mentorship program helps ensure that students are supported in their efforts to meet their goals and advance pro-LGBT equality.
