Originally from Rochester, New York, Takiyah Butler currently works in Economic and Community Development in Miami, FL through AmeriCorps VISTA and NeighborWorks America.

Takiyah has worked for over 5 years in community organizing on various levels including collegiate, young professional, racially stratified, and low income communities in Upstate New York, St. Louis, and now Miami. Her nomadic nature provides a unique lens on a city seldom compared to its domestic counterparts.

Takiyah’s current work provides sustainable housing and leadership training opportunities for those in need; she’s committed to helping novices learn to fish for themselves.

A recent graduate of Binghamton University – SUNY with a B.A. in Economics, Takiyah mixes her passion for progressive social change, a love for all things data, and a keen ear for rhythm to explore her new hometown. Fresh ears and eyes make for a clever perspective on life in The Magic City.
